Drawing on a long tradition that comes from English painting and literature, my work reflects on the romantic idea of the relationship between man and the world. In my artwork, I meditate on the ambiguity of representation between figuration and abstraction, between shapes, space and colours. I seek to conjure up new realms of visual literacy, broadening the visual field through unique relationships. Through continually searching for ways to read and translate the mysteries of the world, I focus on the overlooked beauty that my senses note. I explore and translate the excitement and emotion aroused in the 'moment'. I see my work as more than just painting. I imagine the work as something much more substantial, covering not only walls but cities too.
While studying for my art degree at the University of Wolverhampton, I took a six month transfer to Illinois State University. There I picked up the travelling bug and was lucky to be able to visit many states in the US. When l graduated in 2001, I went travelling around parts of Asia and Australia. Returning home, I found myself a job, and in 2006, l completed an MA in Fine Art. I now live with my partner, and we have two sons. As well following my interest in art, in my spare time, I enjoy coaching my son's rugby team. I also enjoy running, and I recently rekindled my interest in mountain biking. The time out in and out of studio is precious. All while l Have been growing I have been patiently learning my craft and finding my feet as an artist. Is time has allowed me to think and produce the art I want to create. Stuart has had three solo shows, Sanctuary Gallery, Northampton in 2007, Nuneaton Art Gallery in 2009 and Rugby Art Gallery in 2018. In 2008, Stuart's work was selected for the Chelsea International Art Competition in the Agora Gallery, New York. The Needham Open Art Competition, Witchford, Cambridgeshire, UK, and in 2009, the X-Power International Art Competition, X-Power Art Gallery, Beverley Hills, California, USA.
